During the annual reception in the Friedberg town hall on 04.07.2023, the IHK Gießen-Friedberg awarded the companies medDV and Rinn Beton- und Naturstein as winners of the IHK Company Award 2022. The companies received the award at the annual reception of the IHK Gießen-Friedberg on Tuesday in the Friedberg town hall for their innovative concepts and their commitment to sustainable business management. “With the IHK Enterprise Award, we want to show how innovative and high-performing our companies in the region are,” explained IHK Chief Executive Dr. Matthias Leder.
The Fernwald-based company medDV is a software service provider that has set itself the goal of digitizing the entire rescue chain. medDV stands for medical data processing. A total of 108 employees work for the company. An important aspect in the company’s management is the topic of sustainability.
Digitization can save lives
Gunter Ernst, managing director and co-founder of medDV together with Carsten Rausch, explained that the company’s focus is to make the entire rescue chain digital and free of media breaks from start to finish: From the time the alarm is raised, the data is transferred digitally to tablet PCs. The data is then transferred from the scene of the emergency directly to the hospital, so that the hospital can prepare itself optimally for the patient. Data can also be forwarded to billing and quality assurance.
The two managing directors had seen on a daily basis for years in their own work in the rescue service that smooth communication without media discontinuity is important and, in case of doubt, can even save lives. They were encouraged in their plans by the advice they received from the Giessen-Friedberg Chamber of Industry and Commerce: “You could perhaps even go so far as to say that without the Chamber we wouldn’t have existed at all,” says Gunter Ernst, looking back.
Sustainable all along the line
But sustainability is not only important to medDV in the area of patient care: “We heat with wood and have a photovoltaic system on the roof. We have LED lighting throughout the building so that we don’t waste energy there either. When repairing the tablets, only the components that are defective are replaced and not the entire components, in order to work as gently as possible,” Gunter Ernst presents key areas of sustainability.
Sustainability is also an important topic with regard to the employees. To ensure that the staff feels comfortable and enjoys working at medDV in the long term, the company has come up with a number of additional benefits: private supplementary health insurance, a business bike, a massage chair, a freshly prepared daily lunch free of charge, or the payment of kindergarten fees are available to employees. In the future, too, employee satisfaction, ‘happiness’ at work, will be a very important issue.
